Mr. Umar holds an Advance Diploma/PDG in Business Management from Ahmadu-Bello University Zaria and Niger State Polytechnic respectively.

He commenced his career in 1989 as a superintendent with Femi Johnson & Co. he later join Fidelity Bond of Nigeria where he rose through the cadre to the position of Assistant Manager , from 1995 he moved to A & G Insurance Ltd, been a diligent and versatile Insurance broker, he rose to the level of Assistant Director.

He has attended Local and International Management Training, Relational Marketing and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria Branch Manager C courses. Umar is married with children.
